Updates and Computer Problems
I was planning on doing some new stuff and updates for the new EP. But, my computer had other plans. The main pc I use for TS3 work has decided it doesn't have a hard drive. This is due to a known bug in the firmware of that particular Seagate drive. And since I didn't know about the update that would have prevented my drive from locking up, I've got problems. The drive is in a permanent state of busy and the pc will not recognize it. I can't unbrick it myself. There is a technique for it, but no one seems trained in how to do it. They all want to launch a nuclear warhead at it and just replace the drive. So I'm probably looking at a new drive and hopefully they can rip the data off this one and at least save that. But all my setting and tweaks will be gone and I'll probably have to reinstall every app and program. I don't think I'll be up and running with it for awhile. The pc I'm on now, I never transferred anything to it. It's a Lenovo and I wasn't sure I was going to keep it. I don't have any of my work on this one. I have it all on backups.
So, as far as updates go, if I ever get to do them, it won't be for awhile. It's just one of those things. The update that would have prevented this was not really advertised by HP. And I don't do auto updates because my experience with pc's has always been that auto updates usually mess things up. HP really should have let people know that without that update, all the Touchsmarts with that Seagate drive are ticking timebombs. I had no problems with the pc since I bought it in January and last night the drive locked. And of course it's a weekend and I have to wait till tomorrow to get the appointment to try to get it fixed. It's not a hardware thing I can fix myself.
If I'm meant to continue working Sims files, it will happen. Time will tell. In the meantime, sorry for the lack of updates. I've had health issues on top of this mess.
Re: Updates and Computer Problems
And the latest on my drive is, he just ordered a part that he needs to try to unbrick it. So that's going to take yet another week. At this rate, I will be lucky if I see the pc again before Thanksgiving. I do trust him. He's as good with the hardware as I am with the software and codes. If anyone can unbrick this drive, he can. So there's nothing to do but wait. And there probably won't be any new EP updates out of me for awhile. Maybe more toward Xmas.
Re: Updates and Computer Problems
I called the pc store on Friday, and they said they didn't get their shipment yet. Even if they manage to get it this week, alot of people take off for Thanksgiving, so I wouldn't count on having it back for awhile. I'm not sure yet if I'll put it all on this pc or just wait. I know some of the files need updating for WA. I will try to get them done, I just don't know exactly when yet.
Re: Updates and Computer Problems
I called the pc store last week. They said they had a problem with their shipment and have reordered the adapter. At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if they ordered it from the Tibetan foothills by slow donkey. I have no idea when I'll get it back. I told the guy I'd like to have it back before Xmas.
Re: Updates and Computer Problems
Spoke with the computer tech today. He unbricked the drive, the technique was successful :banan) :crldr1) He said he flashed the firmware and was testing it out and that it booted up fine right to my desktop. All my files are there. He's sending a tech out on Wed to bring it home to me :banan) Finally getting my baby back :crldr1)
Re: Updates and Computer Problems
I got it back today, finally. And so far, everything works great on it. I'll have to put WA on here.
