Music Replacement Packages TS2, Uni
Replacements for the University Music for Buy/Build/CAS/Neighborhood.
This is a workaround for those who absolutely hate the game music, but have the bug where you can't turn it off. I used the Maxis Halloween music files and some 7th Guest and Phantasmagoria music. I used the same ones a few times, just didn't have enough for this type of thing. IMO, anything is better than the game's music. I had to use the same file names, so when you play, the music will be named the same as before, but you'll hear these.
BACKUP YOUR FILES FIRST!!!! If you don't, you won't be able to install Nightlife! Before installing Nightlife, copy back your original files. The Nightlife install will look for your file creation dates, they must be the originals.
READ THE README to Install. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you put these in the right folders. One set goes in a TS2 folder, the other set goes into a Uni folder. Check the URL's on the readme's and the folder names. If it says Uni, put it in the UNi. Yes, you do need both sets of files because the game seems to pull the music from both places.
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\Sound
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\Sound
This right here is the cause of the music bug. The game is reading from both sound folders, it is confused, think's there a duplicate and it screws up the music. I wouldn't try to remove anything from the TS2 folder because the game probably needs some of those files since it seems to cross reference them.
How I did this: Used the latest version of Simpe to extract the MP3's. Then I took my own, renamed them with the EXACT same hash names that Simpe gave them. I replaced them in the package files. It's easy to do, but it's a
pain to do. You can do this for the radio stations as well, but they are XA files. The tv music is in the misc.package in the same folder where you'll put these files. The load screen, it's an XA from what I can tell. It's in the splash.package, I think.
