Video Capture Mod (Movie Makers)
-----------------------------------
This mod is a simple mod, most of you will know that the highest video capture size is 640x480, i have made alterations to the configuations to enable you to record in 1280x1024, As you will find out the video quality when recoding in 1280x1024 is amazing no blury edges no grainy effect and no lines, its like Sims2 Movies in High Definition, these were the original settings.

SmallSettings		= size 128x128
MediumSettings        = size 320x240
LargeSettings		= size 640x480

And i have changed them to this removing the small quality 128x128.

SmallSettings		= size 320x240
MediumSettings        = size 640x480
LargeSettings		= size 1280x1024

The filesize of the movies you record will double as you are recording bigger, and also depending on your computer specs whilst recoding it may slow down slighty. Other than that this is great for movies, no other real use, i have attached a file with a movie in it unedited, and as you will see the quality and size is so much better.

Please backup your videocapture file.
Note i have also included the original file settings, for if you wish to change it back.

To install this mod you need copy the file VideoCapture file and paste and overwrite the original, here is the directory,

Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Config

You also need to paste the file into your latest expansion pack. For example if your latest EP is OFB the directory is,

Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\UserData\Config

This does not effect gameplay at all, and is only usefull for if you are recording movies.
Let me know what you think mrgreen

Thanks, Its a real pest when you spend all that time recording and editing and then overall your movies are blury because they have been adited and made larger.

Quick question: Does this also alter the size of the in-game still capture camera or is this just strictly for the video capture?

Re: Video Capture Mod (Movie Makers)

This only alters the video capture in game everything looks normal, everything on screen will be recorded at 1280x1024, just records the image larger thats all, so then when you come to edit if you are wanting a large size picture you wont have to increase the size and wont loose any image quality.

Hope that answers the question.

This is so great! Now my movies will look as good as DVD :lol:

Well, with these settings on it doesn't affect the performance as long as you capture with undercrank (that is, capturing slow but playing back later fast) when you enter high setting or uncompressed setting.

But will this settings affect file size? :?:

Hey Delusion, I've got a quick question for you.

Since you did this mod for video, is there any chance you can do a similar mod for the stillframe screencap options? I definately need one.

I was just wondering, because sometimes my thing randomly changes from high to low to high etc. Well thanks anyways! :banan) Helps alot lot more! :D

Re: Video Capture Mod (Movie Makers)
-----------------------------------
What doesn't let you download *.RAR files Natural8Witch? I would suspect that you use a firewall program (such as Norton or MacAfee) and they are blocking the *.RAR file extension from being recieved on your end - or you have WinVista's Security center set to block this file extensions (which I would doubt because it does not come that way by default). Other than that, you may have your browser set to reject this type of file. Under the menu Tools -> Options -> Content, at the bottom there is a "File Types" field but this generally deals with executable content such as streaming movies and such and you can change the settings of filetypes by clicking the "Manage" button. You will not find the RAR file extension in there (you shouldn't, but if you do change the action to the program you have which uncompresses *.RAR files or simply remove the action - see the buttons). It is also possible that you are actually receiving these *.RAR files and simply cannot open/decompress them in which case it is evident that you do not have a necessary program which handles *.RAR files installed - If this is the case then refer to this thread: http://www.sims2workshop.com/viewtopic.php?p=5673&highlight=#5673 as it is there you will find links to free programs that handle *.RAR files in much the same way you already handle *.ZIP files.
  I suggest you check your firewall settings first, if you have a firewall installed (do not concern yourself with the Windows firewall included in XP as there are no settings concerning allowed file types nor does it affect this). Second, verify weather or not you really cannot download the file, you can and don't receive it, or just can't work with it once you have received it - and if the latter is true then make sure you have a program installed on your computer that enables you to work with it (such as any of the ones mentioned in the link I provided) and also that that program is associated as the default program for the *.RAR file type.
  If you have Mozi-FireFox set to automatically open files you download and do not have a program installed that deals with *.RAR files you will end up not receiving them. You should change your settings to either download the files or ask weather to download or open them, rather than automatically opening them. This can be done via the Tools -> Options -> Main - at the bottom of that window there will be a 'downloads" field and those settings are self explanatory.
  If after all this you still cannot receive *.RAR files you can contact me for help via this BBS's Private messaging system and I will provide whatever help I can (this thread is not about this issue, there are many threads on this site that are).
 :arrow: This is not an invitation for users who have trouble with *RAR files to PM me with such problems. This is a specific invitation to Natural8Witch concerning her problem of not being able to even download/or receive *.RAR files. All other issues concerning *.RAR files are most likely already addressed in one of these threads:

Re: Video Capture Mod (Movie Makers)
-----------------------------------
ThisModernLove947,
 This mod should not be doing that as it does only provide alternate specifications to the game itself, and at that the game only applies those specifications during a video capture and those specs do not pertain to anything besides the size (in pixels) that the built-in video capture engine inputs and outputs the grafx. This file isn't even used by the game until a video capture is initiated (other than just to make sure it is there during the game loading, if the file is missing the game creates the maxis default one for itself while loading). In my mind there is no conceivable reason why what you are experiencing can be attributed to this mod but I still cannot dismiss it as a possibility - one would need more information from you to determine that...
 Do these blue and black patches occur only while you are doing a video capture or do they also happen during normal gameplay? Do they either start or stop happening when you click the video capture icon in the game?
 Normally these blue patches occur when one is using custom meshes or facial content (such as makeup, glasses, beards, etc.) that requires texture detail, sim-object detail, etc. to be set on high. I see them on where a sims face should be mostly, but sometimes I see a piece of furniture is all blue, and I find it is either mostly due to needing the grafx details set to high or it just occurs (for an unknown reason) but cures itself after having the sim do a "change appearance" in a mirror - even if it's a piece of furniture that is all blue - that tends to cure itself too in such circumstances. The black patches I have seen have all been due to some other program that is running in the background while I'm playing the game. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that what you are experiencing is due to this mod but I do think that as unlikely as it is, either way, more information about your setup would be helpful in troubleshooting your problem. In addition to the two questions I posed here it might be helpful to some to know what model grafx card you are using and how much RAM it has - I have only seen the blue myself while using ATI Radeon 92xx and 95xx series w/128mb of ram or less and also N-Vida 6xxx series w/128mb (I think) or less.
 Is it possible that you installed some custom meshes at the time you installed this file (and this file needs to be installed where specified - not in \downloads)?
 Also, for this mod to work the grafx settings within the game must be set to at least 1280x1024 - otherwise the game will default to the maxis shipped setting (max resolution of video capture: 640x480) and your grafx card must be able to support a resolution of 1280x1024. If you right click on the desktop and select "Properties" ("personalize" in Vista - and then "Display Settings") there will be a slide-bar. Slide it all the way to the right... If the display resolution numbers are not both greater than 1280x1024 then this mod will not produce movies of a resolution greater than 640x480, though will produce a movie of the default resolution. You do not have to keep your windows desktop at any particular resolution, this is just to test if your grafx card is capable of such a resolution.
  This mod is solid - I have tested it extensively. I've provided all the info I can, but if you could provide the information I asked here it is possible that someone may be able to help you further.

Re: Video Capture Mod (Movie Makers)
-----------------------------------
Well, ModernLove...
  You need to adjust your grafx settings in the game. The way you describe these black patches is reminiscent of the typical behavior of a grafx card that for some reason can not handle what the game is throwing at it (so to speak). While you are in the game, on the same screen you are at when you quit the game there are grafx settings. Try setting a couple of them to medium or low or off (startwith reflections, shadows and light - if that doesn't work try stepping down some others a notch at a time).
  The Sims 2 is a game that renders 3D imagry "on the fly" based on very little data. Such things require a lot of hardware resources (processors, RAM, etc...) Your computer is obviously capable of running the game efficiently. This is a game that can for the most part fully utilize even the most cutting edge and sophisticatedcomputer hardware such as processors, grafx cards, RAM configurations, FrontSide BUS's,etc, etc... but it does run on most computers you buy at the store and just plug in. You need to adjust some settings.
  How do you adjust the quality/size of the video capture. Go to the camera options/or/settings in the game and select highest quality (set the compression setting to the one above uncompressed). You must have the resolution set to a selection that appears below "1280x1024"
